another fox friend yay
posted
this is a post about (mostly) ambient music.
compared to the rest of my music library, I don’t have much ambient music. there’s not any real reason as to why; I just don’t seek it out often. I tend to prefer rolling bassdrums, shattered breaks, or crushed snares most of the time. they’re what provide the high-energy buzz I usually need to get through the day.
that’s not to say I have zero ambient tracks, nor that I dislike ambient music—far from it. phwoa, for one, has been a part of my library since I have seriously gotten in to listening to music; its variance throughout the 50 minutes it takes up manifests as a careful journey through an alien garden. I’m saddened that I haven’t heard music for airports in an actual airport, for it makes such a place feel much more magical than it really is. growing up in suburbia made the industrial sound of the sprawling city is alive hit a bit too close to home for me, looking out the window to the motorway on rainy nights. and for good measure, the angelic voices in destination by haruka nakamura wash comfort over the tenuous parts of my mind and body.
alas, I wouldn’t say any of these truly and utterly grip me with reminiscence. it’s good music; it helps me calm down and focus when needed, but there’s something quite special about ANOTHER New Year Fox Friend yay by 🦊 that does something different to me. that’s what I put at the top of the post here.
I wonder if it’s related to how unserious and amateurish it presents itself. my first blog post was about how things that seem “jank”, “unrefined”, or “amateurish” appeal to me the most for it represents the delicate process of creation. another look at another release from them, You Melt My Heart!, shows the same kind of aloofness on the cover art. other releases have slightly more serious cover arts, and they are wonderful in their own right, but I just keep coming back to this one.
nothing else can get me to settle in a simultaneous melancholic, ruminative, yet extremely focused state as it. I’ve been writing a lot of my programming stuff recently while listening to it. it’s probably the single track I’ve listened to the most during 2026 (though since cursed003 from ta1lsd0ll just released… that might change before the end of the year).
it evokes that immense feeling of comfort in solitude; the kind you get if you’re alone on a mountain, watching the clouds drift by the foggy valley below, where eveyrthing around you is grey and all that is heard is the wind. it probably makes sense why it makes me focus so much, as that’s exactly the environment I wish I could program stuff in.
what was the point of this post? I’m not sure. probably just to highlight how good this track is. you should listen to it. or perhaps it was secretly a post about the beauty of the fox. thanks for reading.
